The L’heure Bleue is the term that painters and photographers use to refer to twilight. The period of the day, between dawn and sunrise, and sunset and dusk, when the quality of ambient light creates artwork in the sky, and confirms the beauty of the world. It isn’t so much a number by which to set the clock – mere reference points by which to mark the start and end of the day – as it is a state of mind. To the geophysicist, twilight is the geometric center of the sun relative to the mathematical horizon.
The Blue Hour conjures feelings of calm, tranquility and contemplation. Simultaneously there is a melancholy undertone that I associate with ‘blues’ music, the dobro guitar and a hound dog sleeping on the porch.
Perhaps during this time of the day it just takes too much energy to be enthusiastic about anything. Yet Bagus ‘Gonk’ Prabowo @bagusgonk dance the twilight away.
